Day old chicks market news for WEEK 1 MONDAY JAN 2ND
The year 2022 ended with day old chicks selling at #480 per chick for broilers and #580-#600 for pullets.
Surprisingly, as early as on Monday morning, there was a dramatic increase in the demand for chicks which literally resulted to a quick surge in prices at the day old chicks market.
Broilers that were sold between #480 the previous week were being sold at between #560 due to the sudden increase in demand by farmers to the hatcheries who were not fully present.
There is a probability that day old chicks would be sold at an average price of #560 and above due to the demand from farmers who intend to stock for broiler sales during Easter as well as the Muslim fasting period. With this surge in the demand it is very expected that there would be at least a #50 increase in the price of day old broiler chicks. The next sales day would be on Thursday Jan 5th .

Day old chicks market news for WEEK 1 THURSDAY JAN 5TH
Just as predicted, the price of broiler day old chicks increased and was being sold at the rate of #600. It isn’t surprising, because during the market day on Monday, there was an unprecedented demand due to stocking for not just one but two upcoming festivities (Ramadan and Easter festivities).
Though the average price of #600 wasn’t stable at the later end of the day due to reduced demand. But this shouldn’t be surprising as the law of demand and supply is the main determinant factor in the change of prices of day old chicks at the market.
Interestingly the price of day old pullets also increased a little bit, as there is a serious backlog of demand for pullets yet to fulfilled right from the hatcheries which are the main sources producing the day old pullet chicks.
